### Units of Length

The system for measuring length in the customary system is based on the inch , foot , yard , and mile.

### Units of Weight

Convert.

84 inches = feet

Remember 1 ft = 12 in

Write a conversion factor to convert inches to feet. Put inches in the denominator so that they will cancel out the inches that are given.

$\frac{84\;in}{1}\;x\;\frac{1\;ft}{12\;in}$

Multiply.

$\frac{84\;in}{1}\;x\;\frac{1\;ft}{12\;in}\;=\;\frac{84\;ft}{12}$

Simplify:

$\frac{84\;ft}{12}\;=\;\frac{7\;ft}{1}$

So:

84 inches = 7 feet

Convert.

1 pint = cups

Remember 1 pt = 2 c

Write a conversion factor to convert pints to cups. Put pints in the denominator so that they will cancel out the pints that are given.

$\frac{1\;pt}{1}\;x\;\frac{2\;c}{1\;pt}$

Multiply.

$\frac{1\;pt}{1}\;x\;\frac{2\;c}{1\;pt}=\frac{2c\;}{1}$

So:

 1 pint = 2 cups

Convert:

344 quarts = gallons
